PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Advancing Safety and Innovation

Mehling Industries tackled the DeSoto Springs AST Remediation and Repair Project with a focus on both safety and innovation, redefining standards in the field of industrial cleanup. This project addressed the intricate task of cleaning a 40,000 bbl Above Ground Storage Tank (AST) filled with extremely heavy sludge, presenting unique challenges that demanded cutting-edge solutions.


Key Project Highlights:


1. Robotic Precision in Sludge Removal:

Mehling Industries innovatively employed an unmanned robotic squeegee, strategically deployed into the tank using a crane. This not only ensured precise removal of the heavy sludge but also minimized human exposure to the high H2S environment, prioritizing safety throughout the cleanup process.


2. Proprietary Vacuum Pump System:

Our proprietary vacuum pump system played a pivotal role in the cleanup process. It efficiently loaded vac boxes with the removed sludge, utilizing advanced technology to streamline the material handling process while maintaining the highest safety standards.


3. Strategic Material Transport:

To further safeguard our personnel from the hazardous environment, a vac truck was employed for the careful transportation of the material from the vac boxes. This approach minimized human exposure to the site's challenging conditions while ensuring the efficient removal of sludge.


4. Rapid Liner Installation:

Post-sludge removal, Mehling Industries executed a swift and efficient liner installation process. With a prefabricated 40 mil liner ready for deployment, our team seamlessly placed it over the damaged existing liner, ensuring a secure and durable containment solution.


5. Reinforcement with Sand Bags:

To enhance the stability of the newly installed liner, sandbags were strategically added around the interior perimeter of the tank. This meticulous reinforcement ensured that the liner stayed in place, guaranteeing the long-term integrity of the new liner.


6. Environmental Responsiveness:

Throughout the project, Mehling Industries adhered to strict environmental standards. The use of advanced technologies, coupled with a focus on containment and liner integrity, underscored our commitment to sustainable and responsible remediation practices.


7. Minimizing Personnel Exposure:

Given the high H2S content at the site, Mehling Industries prioritized the safety of its personnel. The deployment of unmanned technology and stringent safety protocols minimized the exposure of our team members to hazardous conditions, demonstrating our commitment to their well-being.
